    What color wire goes on the brass screw on the bulb socket?

    Black. Or live, wire always connects to the brass terminal on any device.

    If using a two wire cord, such as a lamp cord, look close at each side of the cord, you will see ribs or slashes in the insulation, this wire is "identified" and is the neutral or white wire, and connects to the silver colored terminal.
