My cat is trying to kill me
I don't know what happened, but last night, my loving cat that's about 4 1/2 years old now went crazy. My wife and I had to go to the emergency room shortly afterwards. The cat went nuts, just straight out attacking us... We did nothing towards her to provoke this and she will not give up the hunt. We've had to lock her in a bathroom with food/water/litterbox, but I don't know what to do... I can't seem to catch the cat to get it into a carrier and it's actually day 3 now and she is still trying to attack us with everything she has. I have never seen my cat this way... never seen any cat act like this before now. Seems like Cujo Kitty will not be stopped. What can I do? I don't want to have the cat put down, but I can't seem to understand why this happened... I live in central Texas, it's an indoor cat (all her life after we got her from a shelter).. she's a mixed breed, but she's got that great silky soft fur... please help me with any of it... I just don't know what to do to catch her or anything... she's freaked out like we tried to kill her or something...
Urgency is of the utmost matter, so please respond if you can help...
Thanks
Zeb

Honestly, I have had that experience with a family members cat. They would chase me around and I had to lock myself in the bathroom just protect myself from the cat. Eventually the cat got used to me and stopped being so violent toward me.
For your case, all of a sudden it just went crazy. Has there been any changes of late? Any visiters, any time where anybody else was there with the cat alone. Maybe somebody tried harming the cat?
Also it is quite a possibility that the cat has some sort of injury, or some illness or disease that is scaring the cat and the cat will react in violent way because he/she is scared and does not know what to do?
For you I would call a local vet. Tell them the situation and see what solutions they may have. I think the possibility that the cat was scared or hurt in some way would actually cause the cat to behave in this manner.
Or maybe the cat just went nutty.

I was popping a few bubbles of some bubble wrap, but that never seemed to bother her before now... I'm hoping she's just ill, but either way, my wife is afraid of the cat now...
Thanks for the swift response!

This actually happened to my Grandmothers cat (an indoor 2 year old tiger). He was a large cat, but always very loving... then one day out of the blue he attacked her (she was 84 at the time) tried to knock her down, bite her very badly (she ended up in the hospital for 2 days) and tried clawing her face. My aunt was finally able to get the cat off her and onto the porch. She called my uncle and myself... when we got there we could hear the cat howling on the porch, my uncle got close to the porch and the cat literally was throwing itself at the windows trying to get at my uncle. Long story short we ended up having to put the cat down. The vet was worried that it had something and the doctors wanted to run tests. The autopsy (is that what you call it on a cat?) showed no changes in his health and the bloodwork was good. It was just like the cat snapped.

Zeb,
Best advice, speak to your vet and find out about getting a neuro exam/ MRI. Something like this could be caused by (no definitely but its possible) a brain tumor. If there is nothing new, no new people, bad experiences, and no new plants or smells, there has tobe an explanation. So get her neuro status checked.
Good luck, let me know what happens.

My cat attack me one day in the same manner. The only thing I could think of was that she smelled a dog on a bag of clothes someone had given me. We also had visitors that day. The problem is that my cat only likes me and my boyfriend. Her animosity towards others is expected after her 5 years with us, but the day she attacked me was totally unexpected. If your cat is still in kill mode you may need to be forcefull with her. One solid smack on the butt may put her in her place. As mean as it sounds you may want to hold her down to the floor and tell her she is bold with a searn voice. Once she's put in her place she should calm down. If she doesn't you should defidentaly get her to a vet some how. She may need a few distemperment shots or something. Good luck and be safe.

Is there any way your vet can come to the house? Perhaps he or she can get in and sedate the cat. Then she can be safely transported to the clinic for some serious testing. I hope you get to the bottom of things, and she turns out o.k. Take care...
