    My Adoption Records
I want to know how to get my adoption records. See I really do not even know where I was born. Is there anyway to find that out without paying so much. I am only a student in Job Corps in Kentucky.

Well, any time you try to get a hold of court records, it will cost money. It cost me $12 to get a copy of my marriage certificate, and $14 for my birth certificate (which, by the way, I needed to get married).

Do you have a copy of your birth cert, issued after your adoption? You should... you'll need it numerous times over the years (for instance, getting a passport). If your adoptive parents are in possession of it, ask for it.

The court you were adopted in is likely the one where the birth cert was issued - though this is not ALWAYS true. Contact that court, and ask if they have a copy of your adoption records.

One thing I do want to note here: If you were the product of a closed adoption, you may not get ANYWHERE with this. Closed adoptions, especially in your age group, are generally closed for a reason. You would have to petition the court for them to be opened, and that doesn't generally happen for less than a medical condition that you would need genetic information on.

Well first not all adoption have open records, it will depend on where you were born, what type of adption was it, and so on.
You will have to know what state at least you were born in, (I would start with the state your current birth certificate says you were born, often they don't change much on them expect the names. But the person who adopted you can tell you where the adoption happened at.
But in general you will have to go to the court where you were adopted to request the records. ( and still may not get them)

So true what the other two have said. If it was a closed adoption, you probably aren't going to get any info.

Your adoptive parents can tell you what court they used for your adoption.
You can ask them if the info on your birth certificate you have is correct except for the name change.

I had an issue on my birth date, my adoption records that my adoptive parents had gotten had been "whited out" and a new birth date typed in.
Before computers and new type white out. So I was not 100 percent sure that my birth date was correct, I new that the doctor, hospital and other birth info was my real, since my adoptive parents were not from St Louis MO. So for me, I bribed a clerk clerk to pull my real birth certificate and change the birth date. ** by the way the statue of limitation on that has ran out no*** and with that all the info on my revised birth certificate is correct.

So have a talk with your adoptive parents as to a lot of this info.

Oh, and asking for your non-id information- if an adoption agency was used, that is shouldn't cost that much in your state. For most people, it costs about $50. And it may help knowing some pertinent information about yourself and your first family.
