My mini dachshund's ears smell weird!
This site is great, I've answered a lot of my own questions after reading through! But anyway... I have a 8 month old mini red dapple dachshund, and I noticed this weird(bad) smell coming from her ears. I bought those ear care cleaning wipes, and even if I use them, her ears still smell bad. Is this normal for dachshunds? Is there anything I should do? I don't think its anything serious, a few people have told me that's normal for some dogs? Please help! :o

Sound like an ear infection theat is deeper in the cannal. Go to vet for a check up.

I have 2 small dogs and their ears do not smell. I have learned from this site if the ears smell then it is very likely that your dog has an ear infection. Your dog will need to go to the vet.

Most ear infections have sort of a doggy smell. Often bathing a dog to prevent odor actually causes it by leading to an ear infection. Even if it is not the typical doggy smelling ear infection, better let the vet check it.

My vet told me that dogs who's ears "flop over", like your dachsund are prone to getting ear problems. She told me it's because it's dark and warm in there and that is the prime place for bacteria to grow.

My puppy who is 5 months old has already had 2 yeast infections in her ear. Take the pup to the Vet, if it is an ear infection like that, they will give you some stuff to put in your puppy's ears and it also helps prevent it from happening again. The medicine they gave me wasn't expensive at all. Go soon so it doesn't turn into anything worse.

(The Vet also told me that a "waxy" smell often means they just need to have their ears cleaned but if it's a bad smell it's almost always an infection.)
