Need He lp Diagnosing An Illness
:( My cat’s name is Woody. He is an 11 year old indoor cat. His health seems to be in decline. Woody does not appear to be in any sort pain or discomfort. Over the past few months he seems to be eating and drinking less. He’s lost some weight. His energy and activity levels have decreased. He cannot jump up on counter tops and tables that he used to reach with ease. He definitely is becoming weaker.

During the previous two months Woody has had three episodes of the following. He falls down (collapses) and struggles to get up. His hind legs are not working. His pupils are dilated, his tongue is hanging out of his mouth and he is breathing hard. Woody’s in distress and cries for help. During his first collapse his bowels let go over the bed.
The episodes last about 15 minutes and Woody seems to recover in a few hours.

We have taken Woody to the Vet twice recently without getting much for answers. The physical exam and blood work revealed nothing. The Vet offered additional tests and services that cost thousands of dollars and still could not guarantee an answer.

The best guess on a diagnosis seems to be a brain tumor or cancer.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had an ekg done on your cat?The way you say he collapes sounds like he may be having heart problems or maybe a stroke. We do EKG's at our office, and we also have a doctor who does ultrasound on pet's that we have trouble diagnosing.I know that 11 years may seem old to many, but cats live long live and this is still very young to me.I have cats that are very old,15,and18,so this should not be due to old age. When her eyes dialate, this is a signal that a neurological problem may be taking place.I do not know how far you are willing to go to pursue the problem, but an ultrasound or Ekg would be my next step.I wish you well, and I hope things go well for your cat. Please let us know how things go.Another thing to consider is the cat may be coming into contact with some sort of toxin that his body is reacting to.Some cats cannot tolerate flea control, and some have died from over the counter flea control, and even heartworm preventatives, especially if the cat may have heartworms and is being given the preventative.
