John, while walking will help you, you need to get your diet right to lose significant weight. A good diet is what will make you lose weight, exercise will make you look good when you do lose it.

Walk as much as you can, and stay active. Concentrate on getting fitter, and doing each mile faster, rather than trying to calculate how many miles you need to walk to lose weight.
