Hey nov9,
Today I was at the library with my 2 daughters and one of their friends. I texted my 14 yr old "Let's go." I got a text back from her saying, "F*k you"
That is NOT my daughter texting me.
I responded back and didn't hear from her.
I called and Verizon said, 'The number you are calling is not in service'
I called her friend's phone and they met me in the lobby. I showed her the text. She freaked out and said she didn't sent it. It was not in her 'Sent' box, though I know she could have deleted it.
I believed her, and I, my other daughter, and her friend sent her a text. None of them came through. The phone wouldn't receive messages either.
Then a few minutes later all the texts we sent came through and the phone was working.
I called Verizon and they had me do *228.
Then later I called her phone and got the "The number you're calling is not in service."
I called Verizon again, and they tried calling and got the same message.
They had me do *228 and it was working.
Then a half hour later I called and got the same message.
This time they put me through to the Tech. He looked in the records and said her phone did send that "F U" text. But he went and disconnected the phone and reconnected it.
She swears she did not send any text like that (no pun intended). I don't think she did, that is not her at all.
So it's a mystery. But it sounds just like your situation.
