Mouse traps are good, as in the sticky pad ones. They are VERY sticky though, but put them all round the crack the ants are coming in.

They are fine to use with children as long as they don't try to eat them and/or roll their eyes on them or something

You could also try boiling water, but ifas its your house, I don't suppose you want to poor that on your floor >_<
