How do I wrte a thank you after a funeral for the local newspaper

Depending on who you would like to thank and the space constraints/accommodations of the local press, you could generalize about giving thanks or name specific individuals.

A possible title might be the following: To All Who Helped with Love and Support Following the Death of [Name of Deceased.], With Gratitude, Many Thanks to All for Love and Support After the Death of Our Beloved [Name and/or Title of Deceased].

You see, there are many ways to do this. There isn't any one certain way.
