You can still get an infection, and have to see a doctor or nurse to find out which kind.
Don't worry, it's common, and the doctor has seen it a million times, and no one is going to think you were having sex.

Tell your mom you are worried that you have a yeast infection.
Yeast infections are not caused by sex.

When ever you take antibiotics you need to take probiotics like eat unsweetened organic yogurt like Stonyfield (not the name brands). Many people don't know to do this and it is why they have reoccurring infections.

You need to see the dr so he can give you a proper diagnosis but to get your mom to take you tell her you might have a yeast infection. Then once there he can determine if it is that or something else. Then you can deal with that when the time comes.

It sounds as though you have a urinary tract infection, not a yeast infection. Virgins get urinary tract infections too.

UTI's cause burning on urination and trouble emptying your bladder. Yeast infections, on the other hand, are accompanied with itching and thick white foul smelling discharge.

Please make an appointment with your doctor. Left untreated can cause damage to the bladder and can lead to kidney infections.

How can you tell the difference? I'm just wondering because I thought they were pretty much the same.

This just furthers my belief that some people should refrain from answering medical questions.

Comparing a UTI and a yeast infection is like comparing apples and cucumbers. A UTI is a bacterial infection of the BLADDER that is accompanied with frequency of urination, burning on urination and incomplete bladder emptying. A person may also have abdominal pain and/or discomfort. They may or may not run a fever.

A yeast infection is a FUNGUS, not bacteria. The symptoms are thick white foul-smelling discharge accompanied with intense itching primarily of the vulva and clitoris.

How can you tell the difference?
Because I am medically trained. That's how I can tell the difference.

I was just suggesting that a yeast infection would not sound so alarming to her mother since she was afraid that her mother would think she was sexually active. As I said the doctor would have to diagnosis the actual problem whatever it may be.
By how can you tell, I know you can tell but I meant as an average person how can you tell.

You were suggesting the wrong thing and leading the OP down the wrong path. You advice was inaccurate and incorrect.

An average person can tell by the symptoms I listed above. It's really not rocket science.

Average person here -- I could tell I had a yeast infection because of the white discharge and odor. I knew when I had a UTI because I screamed in pain when urinating.

So you gave a diagnosis, most likely the wrong one, because it wouldn't be alarming to her mother?

I have to ask, how would a UTI be more alarming than a yeast infection? Neither one is caused by being sexually active.

I'm also an average person, and I can definitely tell the difference between a UTI and a yeast infection, and I've had both.

UTIs can be caused by contact with dirty water while swimming it bathing, improper hygiene, underwear that isn't completely clean, masturbating with unwashed hands or toys, dehydration, 'holding it' when you have to pee, and several other things. Babies can get UTIs from not being changed often enough. Little kids get them because they don't know how to wash properly.

The bottom line is that so many things can cause a UTI that don't involve sex, that you shouldn't be afraid of seeking medical help. Left too long, a UTI will move to the bladder and then to the kidneys, which can cause death.

I gave her ONE example of a non sexual possibility. I said to get a diagnosis of what the actual problem is by going to the doctor.

Typically a UTI is a bladder infection. ;)

I gave her ONE example of a non sexual possibility.
But that "example" was not based on her symptoms.

This is actually one that doctors can diagnose over the phone and call in a prescription. Sometimes it is possible to diagnose by symptoms alone. Believe it or not.

Mority, what you are experiencing has nothing to do with sex. Virgins get this all of the time.

Yeast infections can be cured, but they can come back under certain conditions whether you are a virgin or not.

However, burning when you pee is not a yeast infection, but rather a urinary tract infection. Virgins get them too. So do little babies and little girls. They can be cured, but they can come back too.

At 19 can't you go to the doctor by yourself? I know my daughter does and she is 19. You don't have to go to a gynecologist. You can go to your regular doctor.

I believe you. I just never said that was what it was. I was just suggesting a way she could bring it up to her mother.

And you were telling her the WRONG thing to bring up. That is not helpful, nor is it what we do here. Had she researched yeast, she may have tried to cure with OTC meds and the problem would persist possibly causing damage to the bladder or kidneys.
