Brown Discharge and Then Bright Red Light Bleeding
    [F]
My name is Emma and I am 21 soon to be 22. I am married and my husband works offshore... 7 and 7... I have been experiencing some health issues the past 6 months that has never been problems before. Yesterday I went to use the restroom and I noticed a odorless brown-like discharge on my panties. Later, I felt some wetness and it was light but bright red blood. Today I am still bleeding but again lightly. There is history that I want to explain and maybe someone can help me. In the month of June, I had no periods. I have been having a period for 7 years now and never missed and was always on time. I am not on birth control and when I am sexually active with my husband we do not use protection. The whole month of June I did not have a cycle and I thought I was pregnant. I went to our family physician and he took a blood test and did not detect anything. In the month of July, I bleed for exactly 2 days and then completely stopped. This month, I had a normal period. It started on Aug. 6th and lasted approximately 4-5 days. I had a pap smear in April and it was abnormal. They stated that I have something called Ascus. I also have a piece of skin on my cervix that is not supposed to be there but I was born with it. My husband ejaculated in me the month of June but since then has not. I was ovulating all last week and we had unprotected sex appr 5-6 the whole week he was in. Can I be pregnant?

Here is the definition of ASCUS by medterms.com

    Definition of ASCUS

ASCUS: An acronym for Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance. This term is used in the Bethesda System for reporting Pap smear findings and indicates that some flat (squamous) cells look unusual and may or may not be pre-malignant or malignant. Of all Pap tests with an ASCUS reading, 90-95% are caused by benign conditions, chiefly infections. The remaining 5-10% prove to be precancer or cancer.

In this case, it sounds as though your period may be out of whack due to the possibility of infection.

Did your doc request a repeat pap? Did he put you on any antibiotics? Sorry, but I have to ask... have you ever been exposed to STDs?

You also mention your husband in the beginning then your fiancé at the end. Is this one person or are there two men?

We are newly married and I continusly make the mistake! My doc did request a repeat pap and I had to cancel the appt due to death in the family on that date. I never rescheduled. There are no antibotics. I have never been exposed to STDs. When I called to get more information about this, I asked what caused this and he said it is undetermined. With research and lots of reading I have come to learn that it could possibly be the fact that my cervix has this skin that causes dead cells to remain on the cervix. I am uncertain.

I gotcha, I used to make the same mistake!! The fun of being newlyweds, huh? :D

Anyway, this could be something as mild as a virus, which antibiotics will not help.

I strongly suggest you make the appointment for a repeat pap. I get this every once in a while too. Usually the repeat pap is scheduled approx 6 months after the first. This gives time for any virus to clear up on its own. It usually is undetermined, there is really no cause for concern.

Sounds to me like just an abnormal period.

If the repeat pap comes back abnormal also then they will most likely do something called a Cone Biopsy. This is nothing more really than removing the questionable cells and doing a biopsy on them. Still nothing to be concerned over as this usually clears the problem right up.

So go call the doc and reschedule. ;)

So u do not think I am pregnant? I still feel like something is weird because this brown stuff is something I never experienced. And now I am bleeding. I really appreciate the response. When I see biopsy or cancer... I think major... Can you help!

I really would not worry too much. Yes, biopsy and cancer are scary words. Believe me, I have been through them both and lived to tell about it. :D

You are 21 and still going through hormonal changes that really do not level out until about age 25 for the average woman. Then a few more years down the road we experience more hormonal changes. It can suck being a woman sometimes. :o

Anyway, there are times in our lives when our periods are not textbook or picture perfect.

You made love with your husband in the month of June when he ejaculated, and then went on to have a normal period the first week of August.

This tells me that you are most likely experiencing a symptom of the ASCUS, or just an irregular period. We all have had irregular periods before. Really nothing to concern yourself with now.

Also, have you been under any stress lately that is in excess of what you normally experience? This can lead to irregular cycles also.

Hi I'm having the same problem but instead me and my boyfriend had anal to vaginal sex. We used lube and lots of it so before we had vaginal sex we wiped the lube off him before it. Now from that day I've been bleeding and discharging at the same time I just finished my periods 1 week ago. I am using the implanion rod as birth control. I am getting myself stressed out over it as I keep thinking I might have caught an STI over it. What does everyone else think it could be?

Well you may have an infection. If your boyfriend inserted his penis in your anal then your vagina without washing it off with warm water and soap some bacteria from your anus may have gotten into your vagina.

I don't believe you are, I would wait for a full missed period. Then test two weeks after you should have started your period.

Probably not, it sounds like you got your period in late October. Women can have wonky periods dependent on many different things. If you're still concerned wait for a couple weeks and try a home pregnancy test. The surest sign of pregnancy is a missed period.
