If it is just a matter of glasses for reading, check out the "everything is a dollar store" in TN you can buy varios strengh, and they do well for reading.
Have you checked with your welfare system as to programs, also have you checked with your local church or religious group
My state has a wide variety of programs. Check around what Oklahoma has. Perhaps check with vorehab or your legislaters.
Vision Care and Eyeglasses There are quite a few listing here that you may find helpful... you may also contact your local health department sometimes they will have an Optometrist on staff or one that comes in monthly.
See if there are clinics for the uninsured in your area. Where I live (midwest USA) you can go to the free clinic and get a prescription. The Lyons Club helps to provide free eyeglasses for people in need. They accept donations of used eyeglasses from people. The doctor can probably refer you to an organzation that might help.
I work at the Dean McGee eye institute in OKC. We offer patient assistant programs or free eye exams (if you qualify, by filling out a little paperwork) and are in touch with different organizations that help people that cannot afford glasses receive the correct glasses they need. There are about 30 doctors in the institute and range from general eye exams to Glaucoma, Retina and other eye specialties. If transportation is an issue we can get you to exam some way.
The web site is Dean McGee Eye Institute or the phone number is (405)271-6060.
Hope this helps!!
