Craftsman Push Mower Starts but won't stay running
I used my craftsman push mower 2 days ago and it ran fine. I started it up this morning and it only starts, but shuts off after a second or two. The oil level is fine, gas is fine, air filter is fine, spark plug is fine. What could be the issue, and how do I fix it?

    Hi,
Well seems fairly obvious that though it ran days ago, it has a fuel delivery problem. Got some engine numbers?
    Peace,

    Hi,
Well, yes and no. This is fairly new? Looks like one of their newer torque-model designations. There will be a black and silver tag or there will be numbers stamped into the shield just above the muffler with model, type and code.

I am sure Clarke will find out if there is a mechanical problem but I frequently start by draining all the fuel and the bowl. Then refill with freshly bought fuel. Drain fome fuel from the connection under the tank and collect it in a glass jar, if there is any wter present you will see it.

    Hi,
Yes trying new fuel is always the easiest, I agree! Great thing about most current engines is that the main jet is contained in the float bowl "bolt" and water will drip out and "bead" on the deck when loosened a couple of turns. It can generally be completely removed carefully without disturbing the float bowl and cleaned. Mostly 1/2" on USA-made, a few 7/16." Asian engines are 10, 12 and 13mm mostly.

Thanks for the help, by the way. Where exactly is this bolt for the Bowl, that I am supposed to loosen. Can I have some pointers on how to properly drain this fuel? I don't want to remove something I wasn't supposed to.

    Hi,
Should be directly on the bottm in the center. You are probably best served by using a short socket and ratchet as the outer rim of the bowl is lower to try and keep dirt away from the jet.

Just for grins, see if it will run with out the cap on the gas tank.
