Golden Boy. How would we possibly know if he lightened all his parts. And can we please refrain from making a mockery of this man. Honestly. If anything we should all be the most understanding. Are we not all trying to lighten our skin as well? Let's not look down on him. Though this was very drastic. Smh

I agree that we should not make a mockery of him because if lightening this drastically in such a short span of time (6 months) was done for anything other than a medical reason, then the only thing that comes to mind is low self-esteem and self hate and it goes to show no matter how much money you have...

Only you Golden Boy would ask if Sammy lightened his parts.. lol. But yeah, we should try and be more understanding. This seems like something that he wanted to do for a very long time. I also heard from others from the Dominican Republic that racism and colorism is rampid there, and I also feel his wife either encouraged him or strongly supported him to try and look like her. He went too far and he now thinks he looks quite dashing, but hopefully he will tone it down to look more natural and not so vampish (eggo).

Speaking of vamps, Eggo did you ever meet Vincent Perez while in France (he played Maurius in Queen of the Damned)?

I've been all over DR, the people as a whole are so beautiful and warm and friendly.

The only issue I saw was lack of education/global perspective.

When asked where Im from, I say USA ,They would literally tell me no, you are asiatico! (asian)

So I explained yeah some of my descendants are from asia just like some of yours are from spain and africa... and they got mad to hear that.. as if saying africa is a bad word?

So perhaps that is the mindset some Dominicans and Haitians (as well as many other colonized communities) have? some do not register what continental roots they have (alot of african and some spanish ancestry, and a bit of taino), and similarly register original Americans as being "white". So u see this link with colonial looks, $, fame, status, facial plastics, including extreme skin changes right in front of the media.

Which is not a good example to set for all the young fans who will wonder what suddenly happened... to their hero.

    Sad.

You know. At first I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he WASN'T bleaching his skin. Maybe something else happened. Maybe it really was skin rejuvenating... But what's up with the permed hair and the colored eye contacts? That screams self hate. Doesn't he know it's so obvious? If I ever get this obvious, I pray my family stops me from going in the public eye or has a talk with me. He just needs love. I feel for him. But he should have known that this dramatic of a change would raise eyebrows!

**UPDATE** Sammy says "skin rejuvenation" process is the reason his skin appears lighter
    Read below:
Sammy Sosa's 'bleached skin' -- Cubs employee says skin rejuvenation process reason Sosa's skin appears lighter -- chicagotribune.com

That's true we shouldn't judge him & he probably wanted to do this a long time the only problem is how are all his fans that look up to him are going to even recognize him.I think he used monobenzone with oil it works good with "Almond Glow"..

I feel embarrassed for him that he has to explain himself to so many people, even getting the Cubs PR person involved, but reading his comment about how he can't believe it is such a big deal makes it appears that he may not realize how bad the change looks, and sounds like a case of body dysmorphia to me. I doubt the flash of the camera made him look that much paler, and if a real dermatologist told him this was a "skin rejuvenation," then I would fire them at this point if they didn't warn him of the side effect; Also I doubt 1 session of "Rejuvenation" could do this in the span of 6 months.

Okay, I've deleted the Nosferatu pics but just OMG still... honestly!. plus the gassed up hair and contacts? Just overload. Wow.

Brown, Now you know he don't (yes I'm letting my english disintegrate for a sec) look right.. maybe it's makeup or concealer too.

I've been really trying to keep an open mind and be understanding here... esp since I don't actually want to look any lighter, just to have one color.

I've also learned to put bleaching along the same body modification spectrum as tanning so I'm getting there... but Sosa has pulled like the George Hamilton move in reverse!

I don't know what color Sosa's body was under his clothes so who knows?. maybe he had a serious farmer tan too... but the overall effect with the other changes is eerie to me.

GG, no such luck, I never saw Vincent Perez or the other Vincent, Vincent Cassel.:p

GB 'all his parts?' rofl snort... see you in hell too!:D

If his wife or in laws led him to this I only have this photo to describe my feeling

I'm sorry, I'm in grouchy old lady mode tonight.:o

yeah, 'gassed up' is an old school expression for a guy straightening or just pomading his hair.

I said the same about Tom Hanks in the DaVinci Code, the hair was so horrible & distracting to me, I could barely focus on the film.

    yes, I'm insane.:p

I'm sorry to offend you. I know you're a man as well. But in my cultue (I'm from Sierra Leone), when women bleach it's just like "oh okay. what's new? they're keeping up with fashion. whatever" but when a man bleaches... it's like WHY? Especially since black men are put on such a pedestal around the world. Sammy's original color is celebrated within the black community since he's a MAN...

Lol I was just inferring the "his wife pushed him to get lighter" comments, made me wonder what else she has him doing... like Brown said, the contacts, the permed hair, maybe when she looks at him, she doesn't see a rich black man anymore, she sees a rich mulatto-looking man, and who knows, since she is white hispanic(?) maybe her family feels even better about that, or she thinks so.

In dominican society, financially and socially its generally white hispanics at the top, mulattos (all the mixed people, the majority) and the "negros" (blacks, including the recent Haitian imports) at the bottom.

You will often see dark persons there constantly perm and lighten their hair for this reason, for the mixed look... lest you get asked for papers all the time under suspicion of being an illegal Haitian on that side of the island.

Of course, he's famous and he's in America now, he does not need to do this, regardless of his own midlife crisis or wife crisis or whatever. What will the kids who see him as a hero think? Other than the knowledge of healthy skincare, we wouldn't want our kids using so many SL products and feeling inferior until they get the "results" they want, would we? (just a rhetorical question) and this shock factor celebs have especially in the sports arena is esp potentially confusing to some of the too young fans.

RuPaul, Dennis Rodman, and now Sammy :(
