SEVERE and Very Strange Reaction (to Birth Control?) --- What Can I Do?
Warning: Anyone who is anti-abortion please do not read. I do not want ridicule, but sound nonjudgmental advice. Thank you.

    -------

Hi everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this. First of all, I have to say ANYONE who knows or has any idea as to what's going on - PLEASE respond as soon as possible! I'm getting desperate and have no idea what is happening with me.

This is a bit complicated, but I will try to be as clear as possible.

Okay, the issue is this: I have a severe reaction to something and I'm not sure what it is. I never had any sort of issue before a few months ago, I was healthy - great condition, mentally stable, energetic and happy - but I have been told for years (since about age 16)that I was infertile and could not ever conceive.

I am 22 years old, and two years ago in the fall - I got pregnant. Well, shortly after this, I lost the baby via miscarriage one night. Doctors never explained it to me and still say that I am not fertile and will not get pregnant again. So I did not attempt to use birth control because of what they told me.

Then, last December - I got pregnant again, despite the doctors telling me that I was unable to. Now this SECOND time, I DID NOT lose the baby naturally. I believed I would, but it continued to grow - up until January of this year. I believe in planned-parenthood and know I am not ready to care for a child, so I went to get an abortion.

After the abortion, I was advised to begin birth control. One of the nurses led me to a medicine cabinet and told me to chose which one. Well, I had no idea at all what the affects of any of them were. So after she refused to help in my decision, I chose one called YAZ. Yaz has added hormones.

I started taking YAZ consistently and have continued since January. At first, nothing happened. In fact, it had a positive affect on me.

Then, 2 months ago, which would be April - I started a new job working in an assisted living facility, private duty. The patients are all elderly, and most are physically healthy besides the impact of their old age.

Now, ever since I began working there, slowly - I started feeling worse. At first I thought I was maybe just stressed a bit over the new job and that it would pass, but whatever this is never did. Instead of feeling sluggish and tired, it progressed into something far worse.

My face has a very bad rash now and is painful beyond words. It even hurts to smile or lay on a pillow. For the last 3 days, it has now begun to spread over my body! Its on both of my legs now and hurts just as bad. Its red, itchy, tender and feels like my skin is thin. (For instance: If you ever get a bug bite, your skin still feels thick underneath it - well, this feels like its only one thin layer of skin covering the entire area). At times, if I apply pressure (even by washing sometimes), it leaks a discharge that looks like infection.

I went to the Emergency Room last Sunday night. I was in so much pain and needed help. I was told to stop the Birth Control and being taking Antibiotics internally, along with an external cream Antibiotic. The doctor there told me that she had never seen anything like this before in all of her years working, but it appeared to be a bad allergic reaction of some kind, then to follow what she said and it would most likely all heal within one to two weeks. The final diagnosis was listed as a 'facial rash'. (Too vague.)

Now, its been OVER a week, and the condition is getting WORSE! When I went to the ER, it was only showing up on my face and other parts of my head. Since I started Antibiotics, its spreading down my legs.

As of now, this rash is only on my face, some parts of my head (behind ears and little on scalp) and on both of my legs. Also a random isolated splotch about - on my left hand, my hip. Not too bad in those areas, but I fear this spreading even more! It looks the same in all areas mentioned. It doesn't exactly look like acne, and I haven't had a bad time with acne even in my teenage years.

Options I've considered are a possible bad reaction to the YAZ contraceptive. It has added hormones, and perhaps that's the cause for the outbreak/rash.

I've considered maybe the abortion wasn't sterile or sanitary and I picked up something there.

I've considered picking something up from my place of work.

I just don't know. I'm suffering, the ER doctor has no idea what it is obviously. I've done everything she told me to a T, consistently and just as instructed. I don't know what else to do.

Please someone give your opinion! Does it sound more like the YAZ, the abortion procedure, my job - or something else? Even if you have an idea that isn't verified, don't hesitate to share your input. Anything will be appreciated immensely!

Thanks in advanced to each of you who respond. I am anxiously waiting a reply soon - I need relief from this and healing as soon as possible!

It may be an allergic reaction, but it could be to anything. You need to go to a family doctor and get checked, especially if it is getting worse! Even if they don't know what is going on they can refer you to a specialist. A dermatologist or an allergy specialist may be able to help, but I would say to see a family doc first. They will be able to look at your skin and be better able to help and steer you in the direction you need to go. I hope you can find out what is going on and resolve it. Please go see a doctor!

It sounds like it could be an alergic reaction fom the yaz, which is highly possible, or an infection due to abortion which is also highly possible. Did you go for a check up 2 weeks after the abortion? And this soundsmajor. Definitely need to see a family doctor, I've been in emergency plenty of times when they don't know what wrong with me. Whatever it is, its definitely not good. If it was an allergic reaction I'm assuming that the docs would have caught that. It could possibly be that there was infection from the abortion. You should have a doctor check your blood to make sure there is no infecton in it. Keep us posted with what's going on. And ill pray for you.

    Hi xoxo!

Thanks for posting your thoughts on what could have happened ~ it was really appreciated!

This happened to me last year, right about this time in June is when the worse of it was hitting me. Since then, I've gotten TONS better! The doctors never did find out what was wrong with me.. even after thousands in hospital bills and so much of my time/money spent on getting there to see them. I'm in the hole financially from this.. but grateful that I, at least, got out alive!

It was the most painful thing to handle in my entire life, but it ended in September of last year -- when I got pregnant again! This time, I decided to keep the baby and will be giving birth to him within 2 1/2 weeks now. =)

Honestly, I think it was an overload of hormones that just couldn't be regulated. A few weeks after I got pregnant with my (soon-to-be) son, my symptoms started to disappear.. without medicine or anything. I'm thinking that once I got pregnant (again) that the extra hormones and such were finally balanced out by this new little life who needed them to grow.

Whatever it was, I'm just sooo thankful that it ended! I have some scarring now from this, but the pain is completely vanished. No more boils, pain or anything to remind me of it-- besides the scars. I've talked with a few companies who offer facial peels and they seem to think they can help eliminate the scarring too!

So.. I think this is finally over. =)

THANK YOU for your time in responding to me! After living through this, I now know that anything is possible to overcome -- and anything can be healed -- maybe not logically, but somehow if we believe it enough, we'll eventually get better. And nothing lasts forever, even if it feels like it would..

I wish you luck! Thanks again for your care and time.. :)
