    Running 2 hard drives
Hi, I'm a naïve when it comes to setting up computers, recently I acquired a computer with a fried motherboard but the hard drive is fine and I want to run both hard drives in my existing computer, one for the operating system and one for my junk that currently slows down my computer. I have successfully connected the second hard drive (IDE cable+power cable) into my computer and started it up but now it just boots from the new hard disk and shows no signs of the original one being there at all. Is it that I cannot run 2 hard drives or have I not got the boot procedure setup correctly. Any help is a great help.
    Cheers Pete

    Howdy:

Did you bother setting the jumper on the new hdd to the "slave" position?

It's likely a jumper configuration problem or the secondary hard drives IDE cable or power cable is not seated correctly.

This is going to sound really stupid but when you say jumper configration what do you mean? I don't think there is a problem with the seating of the IDE cable as when I run just one of the hard drives in either slot it still recognises the hard drive,
    Thanks Pete

    Hard Drives
Hi.Dont panic.Just visit this link where the instructions are easy to follow, plus there are diagrams to help you.As you have been told, one drive needs to be set as master, and the other slave, otherwise your motherboard will ignore your second (slave) drive.

You should check the website for the manufacturer of the hard drive. The jumper configuration may be different from drvie to drive. Sometimes is shown on the drive itself.
