    Kevin McCarthy's cancel culture
    When we condemn cancel culture we should practice what we preach .

    Here's what happened . Antisemite and Israel hater Rep Rashida Tlaib scheduled a hate Israel event on May 10, to commemorate" al-Nakba" ...translated 'the catastrophe ".That is what some Palestinians call the birth of Israel . McCarthy said at the time that it was wrong for members of Congress to traffic in antisemitic tropes about Israel.”

    Being against the cancel culture is being for free speech.

    She responded ;

    “Speaker McCarthy wants to rewrite history and erase the existence and truth of the Palestinian people, but he has failed to do so. This event is planned to bring awareness about the Nakba and create space for Palestinian Americans who experienced the Nakba firsthand to tell their stories of trauma and survival.”.

    He used the space she reserved to celebrate the creation of Israel

    His motives may very well be admirable . But he was wrong to cancel the event . It was also counter-productive as the result was that it brought more attention to the event. An event celebrating the creation of Israel could've been scheduled without cancelling the other event.

    The House of Reps is "the people's house " and it's purpose is to protect and defend the Constitution. Using the power of government to silence debate is a violation of the Constitution . Let the Dems own that .

    Defenders of rights ;the ACLU ,lost it's soul and legitimacy when it stopped defending the right of people to say hideous things simply because they disagree with it or deem it hateful. When they did that they became just another political tool .

    And his cancellation did not work . She just shifted her event from one area of the Capitol building to another . Bolshevik Bernie hosted her event in the Senate chamber .
    But now she had publicity and a talking point that it was the Repubs that were the party of censorship .

    Earlier in the day, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), the No. 3 House Democratic leader, said it was “unfortunate” that McCarthy had canceled the event. Aguilar, responding to a question from JI at a Democratic leadership press conference, said, “People should be allowed to congregate, to have discussions, to express their viewpoints and ideas. That’s who we are.”
