Stained bathtub
How can I remove stains from my tub.. its all yellow. I recently moved into a new house. The bathtub is extremely stained. I tried using bleach scoring powder and spirit of salt... I just ended up with a soiled tub with the paint coming off the base... I am not sure what material the tub is made of but judging from the dark material revealed under the paint am guessing iron. I have considered painting with car paint a gloss but tought against it because it might just come off

Yours is probably ruined by previous scouring with abrasives.
Yes, an enamel car paint will just come off.
I personally would buy a new tub, or would pay for refinishing. The tub must be removed to a garage or other outside the house building.

That being said, there are paint on products such as this one, but I'm dubious. Read the reviews and answers. All such products say 'lasts for years.' I say 'hah.'

BTW, I'm being nosy, so feel free to ignore this question, but just 5 months ago you wrote about your husband's much higher income while you were broke. Now you have moved... are you OK?

Great info Joy and I agree with the "HAH"! 8D Do it yourself is dangerous, and requires a lot of prep and safety depending on the tub, so that's my question, is this indeed a cast iron claw foot tub? Is there a budget we are working with?

Of course I love watching videos before I jump into the project.

You get the idea, relax and do the homework of researching this project THOROUGHLY before you jump in if you want a good outcome. That includes cost, materials, and time, and all a PLAN needs is a snack to watch how it's done correctly! 8D
Take time to make a plan and consider ALL your options. I have found YOUTUBE a very useful tool, as well as the INTERNET. So what type of budget are we working with?

We used to have all sorts of problems with staining before we finally found a good filter for our well water. Bar Keepers Friend was, by far, the best product we found for staining, but it is not a long term solution as it is abrasive.

Joypulv. I am definitely checking those links to help with my research. Getting rid of the tub is out of question since it isn't my house... its rented.
Thanks for asking concerning my previous inquiry. I am fine. We have started communicating more and budgeting yogether. It has helped in a way but it hasn't been an easy adjustment... its work in progress... in the process am working on ways to improve my income because as the saying goes... I like money and my own is sweeter..

Talaniman at most I would spend $50... if I were sure of a stain free tub after wards... its not my house but I assumed I could find chemicals that would get rid of the stains when I shifted. Boy was I wrong. Thanks for the links. Will continue my research. By the way I would have to go to the next town to get professional help... where I live is practically a village
Thanks... am going to look into bar keepers friend. Am desperate... its an unsightly mess

Your job is simple, tell the owner to clean this unsightly mess up. Is it a clawfoot as Joy suggested? Professionals have transportation you know, and will certainly service your village. ASK THEM IF THEY DO.

You may be able to use epoxy pool paint. Preparation is critical.

Clawfoot or not, just is it iron. Sounds like it is.
Trouble with re-coating a tub is that it must be 100% dry, and that takes days. Toweling it dry isn't enough.
I'm still confused about whether you left your husband or not, but you don't need to say.
