    Height of Ridge Board
Building an 8' square chicken coop. Walls will be 8 feet high. Roof will have a 7/12 pitch. The roof construction will be 2 x 4 and will use 16'OC. Joists will be 2x 6. What will be the height of the bottom of the ridge board down to the top plate?

    Should be 24.5 inches. 7/12 would be 28" at the top. 2x4 is 3.5 28-3.5= 24.5.

Because of angle on the plumb cut of the 2x4 I would think the ridge board material would be either 1x6 or 2x6.This would make the bottom of ridge 22.5 inchs above the top plate.

Chuck, you are correct. I originally was going to use that# but he said 2X4 so that's what I used. Actually, for an 8' coop, I would just use collar ties and no ridge board.
