    Are s1642 and s1742 decks the same?

    Some are, like the spark plug, some are not, like the fuel filter. Can they be adapted? Some can but others cannot.

    That's on the ASSUMPTION that we are talking about a lawn mower, but the same process of comparison applies... matching part numbers and specs.
