    Employer Notification for COBRA
I have worked with the same company 21 years. I have never received a general notice about my cobra rights until this year. It appears that a mass mailing was done to all employees (over 500). Coincidentally this mailing was followed by major staff reductions. I have not been laid off, but I want to know, is this common practice? Could a mass general notification be indicative of something else, i.e.: selling the company etc.

    Thanks

It is common with any company that is changing their company policy or business practice to notify employees of their rights and benefits. Take it as a warning to prepare yourself no matter what the change is.
