    Ancient Greek inscription on brooch
I have a brooch which has an usual image of an important woman being dressed up by her female servants. Behind the brooch there is some crude inspection written, I think in ancient Greek. Could someone please decipher this for me - VXM/YNI/\. The last letter is like an upside down letter V. Don't have a keyboard button for that, so I improvised.
Just want to know if the inscription shows that my brooch is authentic and is realty old.
    Thanks.

The inscription won't prove that the brooch is old. Take it to a jewellery store and have them take a look at it; they can probably advise you where to go for further inspection. No, that isn't ancient greek; that is a roman numbering system.
