I have a tattoo for 5 years and all of a sudden became allergic to the dark teal ink.
I have many tattoos and lately, every one that has the dark teal ink has become incredibly itchy and raised. I take Benadryl every night but it's still raised and looks 3D. Is there any way to stop this? Will going over it with a different color break down the previous color and not make it so itchy? It's driving me nuts!

Why our bodies do change, along with alergic reaction, it is very possible that something in your life or life style has changed that may be causing this. There is really no way to get rid of the ink so it is best if you see a dermatologist that may have some suggestions.

Have you changed laundry detergent recently? Worn a new material unfamiliar to you, or even had a shower soap change?

Possibly, although tedious, you should go through the process of elimination.

Some dyes have been known to cause allergic reactions, eczema and scarring and can also cause sensitivity to mercury from other sources like dental fillings or consuming some fish. While red causes the most problems, most other colors of standard tattoo ink are also derived from heavy metals (including lead, antimony, beryllium, chromium, cobalt, nickel and arsenic) and can cause skin reactions in some people. Have you ever checked? Nickel is a known dermatitis agent.

See a doctor or skin specialist if you want a proper diagnosis, and treatment.
