Leg problem, Dr. didn't find anything wrong?
Hey guys. So pretty much, I've had surgery on my leg when I was 12. It's never been the same since. It was a major fracture. About 2 months ago, I was playing flag football out in the cold, and I was just jogging at a moderate pace. I had warmed up and stretched before hand. My leg started getting tight and locking up. That night after the game my leg was hurting when I was asleep. Now it's been two months and my leg doesn't feel the same. I can walk and stuff, but even when I just stand on it I feel strange. It feels like there are bands there that I can feel that I've never felt before. And I can't even jog for more than about 20 seconds before I feel a discomfort/pop right between my shin and my knee cap. It's pretty strange and I don't know how to even explain it to the Dr. I told my family Dr. the best that I could, and he sent me in for an X-ray. The results came back and they said they didn't see anything... but I'm still having this issue 2 months later and I'm 100% sure that there's something not right. I was running 5 miles a day and now I can't even run 20 seconds without the issue. And when I stand there's bands there that feel stretched at the right side of my knee and across the front as well. Should I get a referral to a specialist? I don't want to waste money if they're going to tell me there's nothing they can do but at the same time it's so annoying cause it hasn't healed on its own, its been 2 months now, and I'm like frustrated that I can't workout properly because of it.

Have you received any physical therapy or has a doctor looked into inflammation, tendon/muscle strain, etc? There are many things an X-ray won't see, but a MRI might...
I'm not sure what kind of physician you're describing above, but a good orthopedic doctor or physical therapist might have better suggestions. You know your body better than anyone, so keep questioning if if you feel there is a problem.

Takes a lot longer to be completely healed to where you were before your injury, and you may have been to fast with the process. Ease up and give yourself more time before you go at full speed. Of course things feel different after a major injury, as all those healthy muscles basically have been taking a break while the bones healed, and have to get used to doing what they did before.

What's the hurry? Give it more time, and you should be fine in a few more months. Even pro athletes go through a rehab period after a major injury. Consider this yours and be more patient.

It was a regular family Dr. and yes an X-ray was the only thing that was done... I don't know if I should get a referral to a specialist, even if I did, what could be done for me? Will they just tell me to wait it out and heal up on its own? My family Dr. told me in the meanwhile just RICE it... and my broken leg occurred when I was 12 I'm now 23 but this leg injury I sustained was just 2 months ago from jogging in the cold, and I myself don't understand how it came about. But I know the details I described above is so annoying and bothersome it's really freaking me out that I might never be able to run normally again how I used to.

I didn't receive any physical therapy and the Dr. didn't check for tendon strain or anything else like that. I just wonder if I should ask for a referral.

I can't even really explain how it feels all I can explain is where I feel it at and locate it for them if I were to be referred to a specialist.

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you were 12 and this happened 2 months ago. Your doctor could send you for an MRI, but the next step would be a sports doctor if you are that concerned. They are probably more experienced with sports related aches and pains than a family doctor would be.

Update guys. Saw a orthopedic surgeon. He said he heard a pop in there, suspects it to be a meniscus injury, but won't be sure unless an MRI is done. So, I will attempt to get my insurance to pay for it and see what goes from there.

Still hurts especially when I lay face down and flex my leg back up!! Feels like a tendon is pulling or something. Worse thing is I don't know how to explain and when they try to manipulate my leg at the Dr.'s office they ask me to tell them when I feel something but I never do. Lol.
