Do you think this diamond appraisal is accurate?
I recently purchased a diamond engagement ring from a local family owned jeweler. The diamond specs are: Round, 74 carrot, ideal, D color, and SI1. It was set in a solitaire platinum Hearts on Fire setting. I paid $3500. The appraisal came back (from the same store) at $5800.

I don't know, I'm just starting to question if I was ripped off or not.

    Any diamond buffs out there?

A 74 carat diamond? That's humongous! Do you mean .74?

Nobody can appraise a diamond on line... it has to be done in person, by an experienced jeweler.

If you question this ones appraisal... you get a second opinion at another unaffiliated jeweler.

And J_9 is spot on with that size... The Hope Diamond is only 45.52 carats.

If your appraisal said "carrot" instead of CARAT, you should be wary.
