Does anybody know a nice place in Illinois where you can have a mini romantic getaway and cheap?
Please let me know, trying to surprise my hubby.

Whereabouts are you and/or how far do you want to travel? (I'm west of Chicago.)

What do you consider a romantic getaway? What do you consider cheap? For what?

I want to stay in the states, can't go really far now since we already have our vacations planned in 3 months, therefore we can't take much time of work. I just want to go like 2 days... Romantic I mean by, quiet, maybe cabins, water, wine etc. cheap I mean no more than $300 and for what? Haha to get away and be peaceful with my husband. I have heard of starved rock, so far it's the only choice I have.. any more?
    Thanks.

Do you want to be alone in the woods or near civilization?

Are you willing to drive into Wisconsin (just over the state line)?

Okay. I called my local library and hobnobbed with a reference librarian. We decided Starved Rock would be a good first choice -- inexpensive, a Lodge to stay in, on-site restaurant plus a nearby small town (Utica) for other food possibilities, hiking, indoor swimming pool, shopping, cabins (not sure if they are available year 'round). In fact, the librarian and I decided we want to go with you on this getaway! Here's the website --

There's also the Abbey (Lake Geneva Resorts & Spas | The Abbey Resort | Lodging & Resorts in Lake Geneva Wisconsin) in southern Wisconsin and Jumer's near Rock Island (Rock Island Hotel | Resort Spa Illinois | Jumer's Hotel & Casino). The librarian mentioned Galena in NW Illinois as a possibility. There are resort locations in Indiana too, but they are pricier.
