    Unfair landlord demands?
I am leaving my privately rented house tomorrow. This evening my landlord phoned me to tell me that before I leave I have to have the windows cleaned, the carpets cleaned, and the hedges cut. All in one day, as well as actually moving all my furniture out. I have already completely redecorated the house, and had the laminate flooring fixed (which was fitted wrongly so was wrong before I moved in, but the man the landlord asked to fix it couldn't be bothered, so I had it done because I couldn't live with it as it was) replaced the taps in the bathroom because they broke (they were very old) and re tiled the bathroom floor because again it was badly fitted and dangerous for the kids (sharp ceramic tile edges where they had broken because they were badly laid on an uneven floor!) Is my landlord being unreasonable? They said it needs to be done because the new tenant wants to move straight in once I move out, but surely it is their job to make the house ready for the new tenant not mine?

No it is the landlords responsabilaty to clean up and make the house livable. Unless it states in your lease otherwise. If he is willing to give back deposit then no that is what he is supposed to use that for.

Actually you are to leave the house clean, and the landlord can charge cleaning fees if it is not, and it will be deducted from the deposit.

You are supposed to leave a unit (this is my understanding after renting for 14 years) "broom clean"
Or I've also heard you have to leave it in the condition you took over it in...

If they don't have a deposit or something specific in the lease I believe there is not much they can do about it...
