There is no home remedy, no quick fix for a kidney that is so damaged it has to be removed

Funny things is... the kidney is functioning fine... just a little protein in the urine.. the cancer/tumor has surrounded it... so it's got to go... doctor says it's not spread anywhere else and the surgery is set for late sept... still... I am quite bummed out the way this came out of nowhere...

Sorry to here about your kidney cancer. Yes, I've had kidney cancer(renal cancer) about 7-8 years ago. I found out because I had blood in my urine the I was able to see. First off I live in Chicago Il. When I went to the doctor they did tests. When it came time to discuss what my options were, I was lucky because they caught it before it had to be removed. My doctor wanted to cut me, then cut my kidney and remove the cancer. I was devastated. Then I remembered I has a surgery when I was younger(cancer) again, and they froze it. I had mentioned this to my doctor. He gave this some thought, and to my disbelief he decided to go this way with my surgery. He froze it. This surgery was done as a cryo surgery. That was some years ago. I have been cancer free since. Just to let you know if you have to have a kidney removed you can still live one kidney. Hope all go well for you. If you have any other questions let me know. Hope this was helpful.

    Thanks for responding
The doctor said that even if it was caught when it was small it would have had to be removed because it is on the outside of my kidney growing and attaching to it... if it was inside it could be frozen and or removed or perhaps something else... but it is the size of my whole kidney, 16.6 cm... he said it is not the type to spread until it literally eats the entire kidney. And as of now the kidney is still functioning and is fine... just enveloped in cancer.. no pain.. just a little protein in my urine... still sucks though... it came from nowhere... everything else is fine, blood work , lungs , digestive tract all are perfect...

Well then, you will have it removed, yes ? It is correct that you can function with only one kidney. Or is the doctor afraid to touch it at this point ?

The surgery is set for late sept. it will be removed along with the surrounding lymph nodes, just I case they are also infected. I just had no idea about anything until the doctor said it was cancer. I first had an ultrasound that shower a kidney of 16.6 cm and a mass that was calcified of about 7.3 cm (about 3") then an cat scan that showed the mass was 16.5 cm and the calcified area was about 3"... I picked up the results and read them on the way to the doctors. It's weird... a Little protein in my urine and I two weeks later I went to my family doctor( on Monday) who had me get an ultrasound which was four days later( Friday) then he called me to his office the following Monday (one week after I saw him first) he then said he wanted me to have a cat scan and see a specialist ( his office set the appointments, for that Thursday and Friday... ).. I knew something was up ,to get in to have a cat scan and the he following day to see the specialist with the results... It just came out of nowhere... It's not like there was blood I could see in my urine, or any pain at all... or even discomfort... I guess I am still in a bit of shock... maybe I'm having a nightmare and can't wake up!! LOLOLOLOL
