    501C3 Rules
We are a North Carolina 501c3 organization. We are contemplating a change in our title [name] as it appears on our charter. What steps must we take to accomplish a legal change of our name? Is this something we can do without the need to engage services of legal council?

    Thank you for your help

Just be sure when filing taxes to say 'formerly,' - you have a taxpayer ID. No lawyer needed.

But your state will have a form and maybe a $5 fee to submit the name change, and they may accept or deny it. Some states have a list of words that are not allowed in the name.

    Is it a non-profit corporation?

It appears that this is the form you need to file.

You should be able to file it here, or mail it in.
