    Wording For A Sign
I run a used car lot and I am often amazed at what people will come in here and ask me to do for them so they can/will buy a car. People will ask me to lie to banks about amounts, lie on the bill of sale so their taxes will be cheaper... I've even had someone ask me to lie if their girlfriend came in. My license cost me a fortune and it is my livelihood now. I do not lie for these people but it just annoys me and I feel I should have a sign in my shop. What I need is someone to help me with the best way to word such a sign.

Here is what I have as a rough idea... can you come up with something better?

Our license is our livelihood... Please do not ask us to falsify any documents or otherwise lie for you. Thank You

I understand exactly what you are trying to say from your words.
But, you don't want to give your best customers negative vibes.
When I see the word YOU-- I think of me. Does he think I am a dmned crook?

How about "Our license is our livelihood. To keep our license intact, we can only record and report factual information, supported by documentation. "

    Or something like that?

    How about:

"I wouldn't lie to you about the cars I sell, so please don't ask me to lie for you about the car I sold"

    Or

"Honesty is the best policy, and here we thrive to be honest in everything we do, from beginning to end".

Okay, it needs work. Sorry. :(

How about a poster in each salesperson's office: "The penalty for falsifying official documents is (insert penalties from local, state, and Federal regulations, with specific laws in fine print under each).

In the showroom or front window go with Ben's "Honesty is our Only policy."

I like "I wouldn't lie to you about the cars I sell, so please don't ask me to lie for you about the car I sold"
Or a positive version: I am truthful about the cars I sell, and only tell the truth about them to banks, DMVs, and significant or insignificant others.

I was hoping you would say what you really decided.
My dad sold cars. Someone gave him a T shirt that said WOULD YOU BUY A USED CAR FROM THIS MAN? And it was a big hit.
