As a writer myself, I find that baby name books are usually very helpful when I need to name a character who doesn't indicate a name when they "introduce themselves" to me. Another nifty trick I've discovered is to search online for the most popular names for the year the child was born or to look in an alternate language for a word that names part of the character.
