If I have had a root canal, is the root and nerve in that tooth dead.
I had a root canal two years ago. I recently stated having problems in that tooth. The dentist says that I need to have part of the root clipped or removed. Shouldn't that already been done?

Which tooth was done. Some have two roots, others have only one?

I think you had better get a second opinion on the work already done.

Your description isn't enough... Do Describe in detail what exactly is the problem, which tooth is involved, since when did the problem start... if its pain... what kind of pain is it... and what are the aggrevating factors and relieving factors

You should not be letting a dentist do root canals. There are many ways they can be done wrong, AND go bad. Pay the extra $$ for an oral surgeon. Learned that the hard way, as have many others. Just search this site.

I request you to not say such things , rather, suggest such ideas here... especially if u have no idea what you are talking about and especially if it is all based only on Your Experience.
Do not judge every dentist based on the experience with your dentist.
Root canal treatment is very important... Endodontists are specialists in that and they are dentists.
Oral surgeons are dentists too but they would rather sit and Extract the tooth that try and save it.
Next time... do not suggest something like this

OK, honestwriter, I add endodontist, as a suggestion only. (Oral surgeons do more than extract though, another topic.. )
