Heil Furnace flame burns inside burner
Occasionally, when my furnace lights off the flame burns inside one of the burners instead of on top like the others. Is there a fix for this? I have tried to adjust the venturi but it doesn't help.

Make sure gas pressure is adjusted to spec. on furnace tag or label.
Clean burner orifice because a restriction will cause this problem.
    Post back with results.

I should have mentioned; I did have the furnace serviced. Burners were cleaned and gas pressure at the burner header was checked to be in spec. Service man did not clean orifices so I can try that.

The orifice has a very small hole and if you use LP gas the hole is even smaller. DO NOT increase the hole size whatever you do. Use a bobby pin or hat pin or small wire and run it around the hole to make sure there is no obstruction. While you are at it you might as well do all the orifices.

OK, Thanks. I'll give it a try and report back.

For cleaning orifice, I use a piece of copper wire since it won't enlarge the hole & nearly all restrictions are soft or easily removed.

Thanks Grady. I know how to fish; although, the last couple of years I'm not sure I know how to catch fish.

I know what you mean. With the lack of fish in the bay, I haven't fished in 3 years. Want to buy a 25' Parker? ;)

I'm afraid your Parker wouldn't fit well in the strip mines I usually fish. Maybe in the Illinois River? I'm more of a bass fisherman. Good luck.

Had a funeral to attend. Have left the cover off the furnace for two days and haven't heard any burning in the tubes. Got to believe it's related to air flow.

I finally had the chance to clean out the orrifices on my furnace. I didn't find anything in them but I haven't had any burning in the tubes since I cleaned them.

Now all I have to do is replace my condensate trap that I split the threads on after cleaning it. Just some 2" PVC and a little time. Tried epoxy and it worked but I still feel a little seepage.

    Thanks for all your help.

There was probably a spider web in the orifice. They are very hard to see. I had a hard time years ago believing that a spider could be so small to fit in that hole but it is true. Hopefully you got it fixed.
