They are basically telling you that they got the amendment and are processing it, and will get back to you when they are done.

Do NOT lose any sleep over this. They got the amendment, and they cashed the check. The rest is a paperwork drill, with MAYBE a small interest or penalty that will be billed to you sometime in late August/early September. Given what they ORIGINALLY asked for, I suspect you will gladly pay that bill if and when you get it.

Thanks for your reply. I would like to pay the interest and penalty if I have to. I just want to get the reply ASAP, so that I could do my amendment for my 2010 local tax and 2011 tax (federal and local, I should get some money back).

I finally received their response. They used the information I provided to refigure their original proposal, and the Proposed Balance Due (including interest and penalties) now is less than $100.

So I just need to send back with the response form and a check, right?

Yes, that is correct. Once they receive the form and the check, that should end it.

    No.

The check being cashed is your proof that they received the amendment. You MAY get a confirmation notice, but it is not likely.

Tax audit. Filed wrong 1099 forms from previous year and received an audit notice [ 1 Answers ]

In 2008 I filed my taxes for 2007 and used the wrong 1099 forms for that specific year, 2007. It seems my tax preparer used my 2006 1099 forms, for the year 2007, and my income was $70,000 higher in 2006 than 2007. Therefore, I reported $70,000 more income than actually earned. My tax preparer...
