    School blocked websites.
I go to a catholic school and they are insane about blocking websites. I had no problem until now they are starting to block specific areas of AMHD. I love giving advice to people, but now I'm limited to what I can see and give advice to. Does anyone know any way I can take the blocking equipment off a certain computer. (They have also blocked basically every proxy out there) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't try to circumvent their filter. We appreciate you're enjoyment of the site, but don't get yourself in trouble over us or any other thing like that.

Stick with what they allow, and come to AMHD when you get home :)

I can understand why a Catholic school would block some areas of AMHD. I don't agree with it, but I can understand it. I don't think they are being insane, just over protective and short sighted.

But the main point here is that THEY own the PCs. THEY set the rules. You have to abide by those rules (or go to a different school). As long as they set the rules it would be unethical of us and very wrong of you to try and get around those rules. You could find yourself expelled if you try. If you think they are wrong for blocking certain areas, then take your case to them. Explain why you feel they are wrong. But don't try to circumvent their rules.

No, we will not tell you how and even if you knew how, this is not proper behavior, you are willing to get expelled to answer questions of some content,

And while in school, do school work

I would not call some blocking "over protective and short sighted" at all.

Off the top of my head, there is one board here that definitely should be blocked from access by school students: Adult Sexuality. Any other board where some posts contain graphic words or descriptions should also be blocked.

That's my opinion, but hey, I'm biased: I've got 6 kids in school.

It's their computer. Go home and access what you're allowed to by your parents.

Personally I think its refreshing that your school has done this, it's a huge bug barer of mine about young people and what they are looking at and reading it's good that the school is responsible enough to take your best interests to heart.

To be honest it only fuels you on to find sites that aren't yet blocked that contains similar content :p

Agreed. Not all areas here are appropriate for school age children. Some blocking might make sense. But some of it could very well be over protective and short sighted. I'd have to see what areas were blocked to judge.

The reason I said short sighted, is because blocking a kid from anything is just going to make them more curious and inspire them to check out the area when they are not blocked. Over protective for a similar reason.

WoW is a HUGE waste of time when you should be doing school related activities.

Wrong. Using a computer at school is a privilege. Any limitations the school attaches are fine.

Lets say you had a game and you had a friend, who you knew didn't care of his games. Now this friend wanted to borrow your game, but you didn't want to lend it because you were afraid he would break it. Should it be illegal for you to not lend it to him?

Well that's the same thing schools are wrestling with. School time is for learning, not playing. It's a misuse of time and a misuse of computer resources. Stop pouting and grow up a bit.
