    Help identifying fallacies
    Miles took on the positions of provost and executive vice chancellor in 2004.

    It would probably be a fallacy of definition. Provost and executive vice chancellor would mean the same thing. Even though the synonyms are closely related the sentence gives the impression Miles holds two positions at the university when in fact he probably only has one.

    This is assuming of course provost and executive vice chancellor are the same position.
