    Brick mortar
Had brick work done. Could not be there at the time. The mortar used is darker than the rest of the mortar on the house, which is white
Question is, how can I lighten the darker mortar.

    Thanks Bill

Give it some time to cure. It'll lighten up with time.

Try bleaching a test joint area in an obscure location. This may help, but it will degrade the cement cohesive bond. Curing takes 27 days for complete cement cycle and 5 years of constant weathering and sun to really make a lighter difference.

In some modern commercial construction, I've seen something that looks like caulk instead of mortar at some large joints. I need to replace the mortar on my front porch bluestone steps and was interested in trying this instead of traditional mortar. Does anyone know what this material is?
