Need original "you get what you give" by new radicals. Original from 80's
I've been on a quest for a long time to find a song that was released in probably 1980 or 81. It is the same song that the new radicals put out in 98. Both wikipedia and the cd cover credit the new radicals as the writers of the song "you get what you give" however I am sure sure sure I used to hear a different version of the same song on the radio in the early 80's. The song wasn't a huge hit back then but it did get a fair bit of airplay. The song may have had a different title, I'm not sure. It came out around the same time John Lennon was assassinated. I used to listen to the radio on my walkman a lot back then when I was doing my paper route and I heard the song a bunch of times. Any suggestions about where else I could post this question would be more than welcome. I have posted this question before in other places and I have not found an answer. What I have found is rather than having my question answered I have my question questioned. So please(and I mean this politely) don't bother responding if you want to act like I don't know what I'm talking about. Thank you so much everyone. Please help my quest come to an end. I'm OBSESSED!

I love that song too. Very snappy, great melody and harmonies.

It is an original song of theirs. It is, though reminiscent of many songs of the early 80s... the likes of Tears for Fears, Dream Academy, etc... so maybe you're thinking of that same sort of song from the early-mid 80s because it sounds like one.

Just a guess... but "You get What You Give" is an original.

You missed the part of my question that says I am looking to have my question answered and not have my question questioned. I KNOW WHAT I HEARD ON THE RADIO!!

Mr. Bill Carson - looks like you're not the only one who feels like it came from an older time,(see first link) but I think that was the intention of the band (see quote from good old wikipedia... which I know you said you had already read... ) Also interesting, it seems that the song was co-written by Rick Nowles, who wrote many songs in the 80's... maybe you recognize his writing style in the New Radicals song with a song you remember from when you were younger?

(by the way - bullying and shutting people down because you don't like the answer you're given isn't going to change the answer! I tell my 13yr old that all the time... )

Yep, that's my thought. It "sounds like" so much other stuff from the 80s... but the song itself is not a remake.
