I would highly recommend the free version of AVG anti-virus. I stopped using Norton because it missed a lot of things and was easily defeated by certain viruses which would disable the Norton.

I have yet to see AVG disabled by a virus. The protection is great and since I use it myself in running my business, I have no problem recommending it to my customers.

I would certainly endorse the installation of AVG for permanent antivirus protection as I also use it. But, it is of course NOT free other than for a trial period.

My suggestion of Trendmicro was for a possible, one-off, free 'quick-fix' if needed.
