Brigance preschool II test in 3.5 year old - score 100/100 ?gifted
My daughter who is 3 1/2 had a Brigance preschool II screening test for giftedness. It was given to hear as she is reading a bit and her siblings are gifted. I was told the test was out of 100, an average score for a 3.5 year old was 77 and an indication of giftedness was 84. My daughter scored 100.
What does this mean? I know the score is good, but is it "that's nice" good or "trouble here" good? She is not due to go to school for more than two years.

... does it give any insight into level of giftedness, or is the ceiling on the test too low.

    Thanks!

I would not give a lot of weight to any testing, period. The author of that test died in 07 and it's possible that children really are more knowledge-centric than they were years ago, and it might or might not be an indicator of the future. Many gifted children 'lose' their gift as adults and say that they regret all the attention poured on them, because they then had nothing within themselves to keep going. Let your child play, learn, be happy, be loved - that's all that matters now. When they are teens they can take advanced courses, do independent study, or go to advanced schools, or even go to college early. They aren't going to be behind by waiting.

Just to clear up any misunderstandings, while Al Brigance was the original author, the test has been updated and re-standardized since his death The Inventory of Early Development is currently being re-standardized and the other tests carry a 2010 copyright. Each test has also been field tested among several hundred children and reviewed by dozens of teachers, content experts, psychologists, and curriculum specialists.
It is extremely important to consider the test for what it is- a snapshot of where your child is at when the test is given and is not meant to lessen the importance of play or social skills.

Thanks! Her social skills are great although she prefers to play with the 5 year olds who are going to school next year. She loves to play, plays all day, and I am not worried at all about that. Having had two kids through primary school already, I know first had what can happen if gifted kids are not catered for in school. For example, my oldest was reading Harry Potter books in his first year at school when at home, but given readers with one sentence per page at school. The school did not believe me. Eventually he was assessed by the school's educational psychologist who agreed that he was reading and doing math at a high school level, but he was still given then same work in the grade one class by his teacher against the advice of the psychologist "because he has to learn to be the same as everyone else". Actually I don't' agree with that, I think ALL kids, gifted, special needs, or neither, should be able to learn things at school.

So I am not going to wait until my kids are teens because they will be demotivated and disengaged by then. Could that be part of the reason kids 'lose their gift'?

My question was really, is there anything useful that can be said from a 3.5 year old scoring extremely high on a preschool screening test. I am not worried whether she is gifted or not as I assume she is given what happened with my other kids and myself and because her talking and reading is very unusual for her age, but whether it speaks to level of giftedness at all.
