    Removal of searching
One night, when I was out, a relative searched the internet and downloaded many porn videos. I'm going to have to turn my computer back in soon and want to remove all traces of this porn …. Completely. Writing over it so a government auditor will never know it has been used for this purpose. Please tell me what software to use or buy so I can protect my job.

    Thanks

There are many, many programs, some of which the Government actually uses. Ask someone at your local computer store.

At one point the Government questioned why people who had Government-issued, work only computers, found it necessary to wipe them. So this was a computer issued to you because of your work and a relative signed on and downloaded "many" porno videos without your knowledge?

Just making sure I have it right.

If your boss doesn't care whether the hard drive is clean, you can always reformat the drive. A local computer tech can do that for you pretty quickly and cheaply. If there is software on the box that has to be there when you turn it in, you can go through the Add/Remove process in Control Panel and remove whatever apps shouldn't be there. If the porn is just video and/or still photos (.wav, jpg, etc.), you can find them by searching for the extension and moving them to the Recycle Bin, then deleting everything in the Bin. Unless you reformat the drive, just about anything can be recovered (maybe only bits and pieces if something else has written over them).
