Need to be careful of copyright issues on downloads.

On the music player are you looking at a device (iPod) or software ?
As for the music there's a few services available, like Amazon, iTunes..

I must admit to being Old Skool with music and prefer the physical CD's and vinyl..

I'm looking for something downloadable that will allow me to transfer music to my smart phone (Android).

I lost all my CD's in my recent separation, the ex has ALL the music! :(

Well transferring to Android is dead easy and dealt with on the phones sync software, so nowt to worry about there.

Don't forget to try eBay for CD's.
Ripping them for devices is also easy enough, in fact dealt with in Windows media player v11..

I use MusicBee for my media player and library organization (Download | MusicBee - Music Manager and Player). It works great for me and my library is approximately 55,000 songs.

For free music to download, check out this list:

And as far as your Android phone and your music collection, check out Audiogalaxy (Audiogalaxy - Your Music. Your Playlists. Hit Play from Anywhere.). With that I am able to stream my entire connection to my phone over my data connection. A very small app runs in the background of my PC at home and as long as it is running and my PC has an Internet connection I can access my music. Plus I can mark songs for download and store them straight to my phone's SD card.
