    I am looking to teach myself Italian; can anyone recommend a great book to help?

    Reading the words goes only so far. You will need to hear the words pronounced too. Check at your local public library for an audiobook or DVD on learning Italian. If they don't own it, they should be able to get one for you through interlibrary loan.
