How to become a real estate agent?
How does someone become a real estate agent? Does it take long and what do you do after you have the credentials? How do you get started? Any advice would be great. I am trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Depends on the state. You usually need to go to real estate school, then take the state test.
And finally hang your license with a company.. all you need to be is over 18. No hs diploma required but for your own good I would take as much schooling as I could...
Cost me $350 for 3 week cram course, $150 at sylvans for the exam... and if your not ready to work you can usually hang your license with a company and send them referals for money... hope it helps (knowing your math helps too).

Ok, I can tell you about TN, I just finished getting my real estate license this month.

In TN you have to go to a 60 hour licensing course $300, and pass it, then you can sit for the state exam $85. You have to pass it, it is in two parts, state and national.

After you do that, you have to find a real estate agency that will allow you to sell for them, You have to have a high school or GED to get a license in TN. At this point you have a broker/agency to sell for, you take your license approval from where you passed the test, you pay a $250 dollar fee for errors and ommission insurance, a $100 license fee, and a $30 dollar fee for a state fund. After you send in all of that money

Now you are registed and licensed to sell for that agency, if the agency you go to work for is a MLS agency you will have to pay that fee, the current fee is @ 500.

Now of course this does not include any business cards, your name for the top of signs for property you list, or any advertising.

And you only make money if and when you sell a property, so you may work months before you actually make any money.

Total spent to get license and get MLS listed was @ $1265.
It took me about 3 months from start to finish, but could be done faster.
