    Travel Trailer title question...
We bought a travel trailer 5 years ago from an individual. It is a 2004 Forrest River Salem. The story he gave us was that he bought two identical trailers in Florida for his roofing crews and it became a hassle for him to keep them bailed out of jail so he brought them back to Tennessee. He put them out in front of his place of business. We bought one for a nice price and was given what we thought was a title. As it turns out the document, which looks just like a title, is a "Certification Of Origin For A vehicle". Since it was purchased in Florida, the RV dealership has closed. The folks we bought it from has moved out of state and can't be located. We want to sell this camper now but can't without a title. Now, the catch. We are law abiding citizens but never titled it in our name but now we can't sell it without a title. I don't mind paying the sales tax at all, but if I apply for a lost title and this thing shows up with a lien on it the "lender" could claim it. Is there a way to run a vin # and /or serial number to check on it's status before we apply for a lost title?

What you have is basically the piece of paper that the manufacturer gives the dealer so the dealer can have the travel trailer titled. Take this down to your local title agency and see what they will do for you to get the title in your name so you can then resell the trailer. They may or may not do this for you as you are not a licensed dealer. You can ask them to run the vin # but you can't ask for a lost title on this as you never had the title in your name in the first place.

Do you have a bill of sale, that shows you paid for it, signed by the seller
