This is fairly common, he was from the radio account also in need of medical care so he wanted in long enough to treat his condition and be able to retire after prison.

But it was common in our work before, for someone to do a crime in the post office, in hopes of being charged with a Federal crime so they will go to Federal prison, instead of state prison ( better treatment and benefits normally)

Of they do a crime that will get them 4 to 6 months so they spend winter in jail when it is snow and cold outside

Says something about the avaiability of care over there doesn't it? Now give me all those arguments against universal health care again?

The truth is that if he was in as bad a shape as described ;he was already entitled to the social safety net.

Perhaps he didn't know about his "entitlements"

perhaps he didn't know about his "entitlements"
That of course is the likely explanation.

He'd better be careful ,such outside the box thinking could land him a job.

But if he was really smart he could've claimed he was an illegal alien ,and just walked into a hospital for the care he needed .

Tom why does he have to be an illegal alien to get care? You just said he would be entitled to care. Such confusion! No wonder he only stole a dollar, it was his way of saying I want out. How many years do you get for a dollar over there? Is there such a thing as misdemeaner bank robbery?

That was his big mistake . He thought he'd get 3 years that would last until his social security money kicked in... then he could buy his beach condo . In fact ,if he serves any time ;it won't be much.

Like I said ;there were legal alternatives for him . Someone who is as enterprising as him could've done his homework .
