Ford KA Speedometer and Odometer Failure
Bizarrely enough the same speedometer problem that I have on my Honda Civic (see other post) has now occurred on my girlfriend's car...

The car is a 2001 (UK spec) Ford KA. Both the speedometer and odometer fail to work at all. The petrol gauge and other instrument displays work as normal. I've checked all the fuses but none have blown. Can anyone shed some light on what the problem could be? Is it likely to be a problem with the Speed Sensor (where is this located on a Ford KA), or is there another control module which could be the culprit? Any help/advice is very much appreciated.

    Cheers

Since the speedometer and odometer fail to work:
    1. Check for a blown under-dash fuse
    2. Check the VSS harness
    3. Check/replace the VSS

The last resort is to replace the speedometer.

I've read through the posts about other Escort speedometers, however nothing is helpful. My speedometer works up until about 30 mph, then hangs out at 85 mph. I realize it's probably the speedometer cable and have traced it and know where it is. My problem is removing the dash to get to the...

95 Ford Escort -- Speedometer Head [ 4 Answers ]

The speedometer head on my 95 Escort is broken. After 55MPH the needle goes all over the place - and I think it’s the speedometer head that emits a high pitched whirring noise. Can I only have this fixed by the dealer? His estimate (without seeing the car) was at least $600.
