    Geisha styles for short hair
I am going to a ball next month and the theme is countries.

I have a kimono so thought I'd put it to use and go as a Geisha girl.

Only problem is I have short hair, every site I find just says "buy a wig" which I really don't have the money for.
Any ideas on how I can make my hair look at least reminiscent of a Geisha?

This is close to the length of my hair at the moment (just a bit longer at the back)

Are you willing to cut your hair? Dye it? Geishas often have/had bangs and a thick short glossy bob that framed the face.

    Here's eHow's suggestion on how to --

If you Google "geisha hairdo" (without quote marks), you'll find YouTube videos on how to create that look.

Thanks WG, not really willing to cut it just for the one night. Going to get some temporary black hair spray to go over it once its done.
I found that site earlier but down the bottom it says it only works with long hair :(

I might play around with that one on my own hair and see how it goes though, will check out YouTube too.

The makeup would be important too -- white face especially. Dark eyeliner? If you "wrap" your hair tight to your head, poof up the top into a knot, and stick two chopsticks in the poof, you'd fool me. Just don't bind your feet.

    Haha no, no feet binding!

I have a red, black and gold kimono and I have red chopsticks for my hair.
I just need to buy some gold fabric for the belt around the waist and some flowers and beads for a few hair details.
The make-up is going to be interesting.

It's a drag queen ball so I probably won't stand out much no matter what I wear :D

Are hair styles art? [ 3 Answers ]

What do you guys think about hair styles being an art? I am a guy so this is kind of touchy for my gender I suppose; but I love to style my hair differently, abstractly, but at the same time I make sure it is pleasant to look at and "not messy". I view this as a form of art and self expression....
