    Check engine light and DEQ
    Hi there,

    I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way to pass DEQ in Oregon if you have a check engine light on? I've been to three mechanics and no one can figure out why its on...

    And out of the three they all said there are no codes (DTC"s) stored in the computer?
    This is very strange. Almost not possible.

    It's a 1994 Toyota. They can't use the regular plug in system to read codes.

    All you need is a paper clip to jump across the data link connector under the hood.

    No worries, the year of my car DEQ doesn't a different test that doesn't care if the check engine light is on as long as it passes smog.

    1996 ford explorer I need help getting it through DEQ. It drives fine and funs perfect but I have a check engine light on. Can anyone help?

    cbjohnso, your 1996 has OBDII so you'll need a code reader to get any diagnostic trouble codes from the system.
    Read and record whatever code or codes you have stored and let us know.
