    FireFox 4 goes GOLD
Released today and already passed SIX million downloads.
BBC News - Millions download latest Firefox browser

Of course I'm running the GOLD version.
I've been playing with the betas and RC's since they where released.

    So far all good.
Smaller foot print, faster running and good OS integration.
Runs like a dream on Win7 64 Ent edition.

Anyone else going to join the "IN" crowd ;)

Curly, I've been using FF 3.6 on a WinXP machine with 2 gig of RAM and I've noticed that with the last few upgrades FF has become a bit of a memory hog. I can no longer leave 3 or 4 tabs open all day without having to shut down FF and restart it. Any idea if the new build will use less memory?

    It does indeed.
It's not unknown for me to bust a GIG over the course of a day, but, so far, I haven't even gotten close to 500 Meg!

Currently running a dozen mixed tabs for the last 6 hours and just over 300 Meg.
Guy I share my office with runs XP with 768 Meg and it's fine.

    Simple upgrade as well.
Download and double click the installer.
VERY minimal work on your behalf to do.
    Job done.

Some add-ons may not work, but I only found a theme that didn't.
Shame really as it's the one I use the most.
No matter found a different one ;)

I'm a bit mad at Firefox right now Ben, and you know why.

After all the tutoring you gave me the other day, I still can't get it to run.

How am I posting you ask? I switched to Rod's computer (same computer, we just each have our own settings).

I had to download ff on Rod's puter, and now it's all messed up. Also, I can't get on skype now.

Ya, I'm moody. I love ff, unless it's not working, then, not so much. ;)

Very pretty, Curly! A few of my add-ons aren't compatible but they weren't important ones. I'm going to go play now. :)

Alty, keep trying. It's worth it!

I found it, but it didn't give me any options to go back a few days. Knowing me, it's not the computers fault, it's all me. ;)

The hammer option is looking better every minute.

Yep, that'll be why it says FF in the top left corner ;)

You can have the tabs UNDER the address bar if you want, but the themes don't work as well as they should that way.

I like the tabs under. I'm used to it that way. I don't use themes. I'm a luddite. :)

I don't use it. Guess Im not part of the "in" crowd. Ive been test driving the new I.E. 9. Which seems to run pretty well just a little awkward looking. I guess they are never going to bring back Netscape :)

IE? OMG! I was joking with Ben yesterday that if I couldn't get my Firefox back I'd be reduced to using IE. You couldn't pay me to go back to that. I hated it.

    Oops.

I mean. Um. Whatever makes you happy dad. ;)

I have them all but I don't use them all. Just sometimes for test purposes. Have you even looked at the new I.E. 9 ? Its more like chrome and faster.

I'm with Alty. Can't stand IE. I love FF but I started using Chrome when FF messed up on pogo.com. But FF4 works with pogo now so it looks like my Chrome will get dusty.

When I was using IE I had nothing but issues. AMHD wouldn't run correctly, I couldn't get on to Facebook. Nothing.

When I switched to ff it all started working perfectly.

Sadly my hubby did something to my computer and ff crashed. I don't know how to get everything working again.

I don't know why that man has to fuss around with my computer. If he wants to completely mess thing up he has his own computer to do it on. :(

Well Alty figured it out all by herself. Boo you!

I may not be computer savvy, but I'm not afraid to push buttons, so I just kept pushing until something worked.

FF is back. Don't ask me how, I don't know what I did, all I care about is that everything is back in working order. :)

    Nice one Alty.

Anyway for the geeks watching this tells an interesting story

Results from The HTML5 test - How well does your browser support HTML5? (an independent web standards testing platform)

Firefox 4 GOLD release scores 255 and 9 bonus points
    IE9: 96 and 5
    All on the SAME hardware.

So I think the speaks for itself really.
Oh how I enjoy standards based browsers ;)

BUT Chrome 10 kicks them both with 288 and 13!!
